Anniversary Banquet
The Downtown Rescue
Mission began meeting needs in the Huntsville, Alabama area since 1975.
Thirty- five years after its inception, it has moved to a new location,
expanded its umbrella of ministries and now meets twenty to twenty-five
times the amount of needs than it originally met. It is awe-inspiring to
see how God has used the Mission to change thousands of lives with the
Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are so blessed to be able to do His will here
in the Tennessee Valley
Friends of the Friendless BanquetThe annual
Friends of the Friendless Banquet will be in the Mission’s Fellowship
Hall. Guests will enjoy meeting DRM staff members and other donors,
eating a delicious, catered meal, listening to several resident men and
women testimonies and watching our annual awards ceremony (see winners
below). This is always a night of fun, good food and entertainment. It’s
our way of saying “Thank You” to all the wonderful people who make DRM a
possibility. If you would like to join our Friends of the Friendless
group, please give us a call
Christmas at the Mission
On November 26 – 27,
2012, families from our surrounding community can come to the Mission to
apply to receive toys for their children for Christmas in our
Fellowship Hall. Many families took advantage of this opportunity last
year due to our current economic climate. Through the Lord’s provision,
we had 275 children receive toys at DRM!
In order to be eligible to receive the toys, parents and children must
be in attendance during our Thursday, December 20 Christmas Children’s
Party from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., which is organized and executed by Mission
staff and volunteers. The program has always been a wonderful
experience that is fun for both adults and children of all walks of
life. It includes illusionist Matt Adams, live worship band, crafts,
pizza, cupcakes and Christmas presents!
Without the donation of these brand new presents, many children would
not receive anything for Our staff Christmas party will be held on
December 7 here at the Mission. This formal event takes places in our
gymnasium, where employees and their guests sit down and enjoy a
beautifully prepared meal.
Like last year, employee departments will be competing against each
other with skits and songs. Our President and Vice President are the
special judges.
Our Christmas festivities top off on Christmas Day. Volunteers come
ready to serve a meal and love on every person who comes to eat. This
holiday meal is a special time to encourage and invest in people who
have lost hope in themselves or could not afford to eat anywhere else.
Much like on Thanksgiving, guests are given the VIP treatment as
volunteers wait on them just like they were eating at a restaurant.
