Joe Ballor Towing, Inc. has been offering emergency towing and vehicle recovery services to the New Haven and Romeo, MI communities since 1939.
What started out as a career in collecting and transporting scrap iron from the old New Haven Foundry and from farms around the area, founder, Joseph Ballor Sr. began delivering iron by truck to the railroad in New Haven. The first truck to be designed by Joe Sr. was a Buick Roadmaster chassis outfitted with a hand crank winch. Joe Sr. went on to build many more trucks and became known for his homemade wreckers.
Years later Mr. Ballor, with his wife Elizabeth's support and help, expanded into the heavy duty wrecker business by building his own wrecker. Many trucks were outfitted on old GMC WWII military chassis. Joe Sr, and his son Joe Jr. went on to build many “Ballor Built” trucks into the 1980's. As the area around New Haven grew Joe Jr. saw the need to diversify the company into heavy haul transportation.
Since 1939 we have had 128 trucks. A second location was then added in 1999 in Romeo to accommodate the increase demand for services. Today Joe Jr., his wife Cheryl, and their son Joel (third generation) operate a the company that has grown into a diverse fleet with over 30 trucks and employees, capable of transporting anything from a car to a 160,000 pound load.
