2013 was the first year we teamed up with Funtastic out of Vernon here in Port Alberni, and the response has been awesome. We had 56 teams in 2013, 66 in 2014, we hosted 70 teams in 2015 & 2016. We are looking to increase the number of teams to 77 and possibly 84! If not 2017 it will be in 2018 for sure!!
The 2017 Music Festival portion of the weekend will be sponsored once again by Tyler's No Frills. On July 1st/ 2016 we had our Country Night….Headliner Completely Creedence, Big Daddy, and Lance Lapointe had the crowd tapping their toes and dancing on the field all night! July 2nd was Rock & Roll Night---Alberni Teens Can Rock opened up the evening with an awesome performance….really nice to see these future rockers on the Funtastic Stage…..they will be back in 2017. Our own Jason Samson, House Band Chevy Metal were on stage before Calgary Alberta’s IKONS—TRIBUTE TO KISS!! They did not disappoint putting on an amazing show!! Thanks to all the performers!!
With July 1st/2017 being Canada’s 150th Birthday….Our Music Director Jason Samson has got a couple surprises up his sleeve for 2017. For updates please check the website for the 2017 bands...they will be posted as soon as they are booked, and confirmed. Thanks J!!
We already have 9 teams signed up for 2017, and we are receiving emails from new teams looking for 2017 tourney info. Team “Get Lei’d”received FREE ENTRY for winning the LARLALAND
COSTUME CONTEST…..they were amazing all weekend. After seeing all the zany costumes in Vernon over the past decade, to see the teams who entered the costume contest here in Alberni was really nice......it kept a smile on our faces all weekend. THE DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY won FREE ENTRY for 2017 by winning the Most Sportsmanlike Team. (RIP RICK.M) Funtastic/Alberni also sponsored the Most Sportsmanlike Team Contest at three tournaments in 2016—Malfunction @ The Junction—Woss Lake Fire Dept Annual Tourney, & The Gold River Tourney. All 3 teams that won were entered in a draw for FREE ENTRY to Okee Dokee 2017----and the winner is……… REENIE RASCALS!!
