South Carolina Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care is an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association . Since 2003 we have regularly undergone evaluations by AAHA to ensure that we comply with the association’s high-quality standards of care. These standards cover nearly every aspect of our hospital including surgery, pharmacy, laboratory, exam facilities, pet health records, cleanliness, emergency services, nursing care, diagnostic imaging, and anesthesiology. Only 15 percent of animal hospitals in North America are accredited by AAHA. AAHA standards are recognized around the world as the benchmark for quality care in veterinary medicine.
Our modern and fully-equipped hospital allows us to provide excellent veterinary care to our patients and dedicated service to our clients. Our modern facility was built in 2007 and features 8 consultation rooms, a large central treatment ward, an on-site oxygen generator, modern surgical suite, and fully digitized medical record keeping and radiology services.
Our in-house laboratory allows us to access a variety of tests that can help correctly diagnose and treat your pet’s illness. Test results are available within minutes to a few hours. Current we are able to perform the following tests on site:
- CBC (Complete Blood Count)
- Blood smear analysis
- Organ and metabolic function profiles
- Electrolyte & Blood Gas analysis
- Clotting function evaluation
- Hematocrit
- Ethylene Glycol (Antifreeze) testing
- Feline Leukemia & Feline Immunosuppressive Viral testing
- Heartworm testing
- Tick-borne disease (Lyme and Ehrlichia) testing
- Parvovirus testing
- Urinalysis
Our radiology services include digital radiographs (“x-rays”) and ultrasound imaging. We are able to submit radiographs for review by a Board-certified Veterinary Radiologist at any hour and receive results within 2 hours.
We are also able to provide a variety of other diagnostic testing services such as:
- Blood Pressure measurement and monitoring
- Oxygenation measurements
- ECG monitoring
- Intraocular pressure monitoring
- Ocular staining
- Ocular tear production evaluation
Should our pet require a transfusion we are prepared with Packed Red Blood Cells, Fresh Frozen Plasma, and a bank of Whole Blood Donors.
Our on-site pharmacy maintains a variety of medications for use in the care of our patients. We have access to all the commonly used products as well as emergency-specific products such as antivenom (for snakebites) and Fomepizole (for antifreeze toxicity).
