Dr. Courtney graduated high school as Salutatorian of his class, was selected for Louisiana Boys State and was a member of theLouisiana All-State basketball team. In college he graduated summa cum laude from Northeast Louisiana University and later received his medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical School where he was awarded the Howmedica Biomechanic Award and the Louisiana Orthopedic Association Award. He also placed fourth in the World Congress for Student Research Competition. His residency was at Texas A&M University Medical Center and completed further specialty training through a fellowship at Florida Neck & Back Institute in Gainesville, FL.
Dr. Courtney has been Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the Medical Center of Plano and a member of the hospitals Executive and Operating Room Committees.
Dr. Courtney is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and the Texas Spine Society.
He has five children and enjoys mountain bike racing and Louisiana style cooking.

Eminent Spine. Steve Courtney, MD, and David Freehill co-founded Eminent Spine in 2008 to provide new spine technology to the field. In May, the company was issued patents for the DiamondBack Pedicle Screw Fixation System and the Fang Bone Plate and Plating System. The company also recently released white papers detailing the effectiveness of their King Cobra anterior cervical plate and Copperhead PEEK Cervical Cage. The company continues to position itself for growth on the national level after passing its second consecutive FDA inspection in February 2014. The company’s innovative products and distinctive design have set the instruments apart from others available in the field.
