How to Obtain a Guest Bus Pass for Your Student(s):

1. Call the Office Assistant:Contact the office assistant at the school assigned to your student.
2. Request a Blue Pass:Ask the assistant if your student can receive a blue pass to ride another student's bus.
3. Get the Blue Pass:The office assistant will issue your student a blue pass to give to the bus driver.

If a student is riding with a musical instrument, the musical instrument must fit in the child's lap, otherwise other transportation must be arranged for the musical instrument.

The following items are never allowed on the bus:  Food, beverages, gum, candy (except when enclosed in a backpack), guns (including toy guns), knives or other sharp objects, gasoline engines or cans, animals, insects, fish, matches, lighters, glass items, aerosol products, laser pens, skis, ski poles, hockey sticks, skateboards, scooters, golf clubs, lacrosse sticks, baseball bats, balloons or any items of dangerous or objectionable nature.

All students, including students who receive special education, riding a full-sized bus and residing within two miles of the resident school will be required to pay a fee for bus service. However, state law stipulates that free bus service must be provided for students who receive special education who require transportation as part of their individual education plan, regardless of where they live. As a result, students who receive special education riding a special education bus will ride at no charge and will not be required to carry a bus pass.

The POP student may be provided transportation if the student meets the bus from the nearest regular bus stop available, based on bus capacity. The District will not alter bus routes or travel into another attendance area to pick up students.

The distance will be measured using our bus routing program. The computer program, VersaTrans, uses the Hennepin County GIS map of the entire district. It is the most accurate and fair measurement of the distance between two points. The measurement is taken from the street center-line of the lot of the student’s primary residence to the center-driveway of the school.

The distance will be measured based on the walking distance from the child’s home to the school of attendance. If the mileage exceeds two miles, transportation will be provided without charge. The parents will be required to pay a fee to ride the bus if their residence is within two miles of school.
