Elementary school students participating in Tonka Online will have many of the same experiences as traditional students, with the added flexibility and convenience that only comes through online education. Tonka Online courses have been specifically designed to provide a quality e-learning experience, which allows teachers to provide personalized instruction and better support learners. Each student gets personalized attention through our small class sizes.

Daily Specialist Experiences

Physical Education:  Elementary students not only love being active but benefit greatly from consistent activity! Elementary students in Tonka Online will receive physical education instruction twice every 6 school days. During the year, elementary students will be introduced to a variety of locomotor skills, object control skills, coordination and balance tasks, fitness concepts and more. These skills and activities will help your learner create a great foundation and a love for movement!

Music : Elementary School is a time for students to explore and develop a love for music! Elementary students in Tonka Online will receive music instruction twice every 6 school days. Students will experience music through singing, composing, movement, and creative projects. They will learn how to read music notation at a developmentally appropriate level (solfege and standard music notation). They will learn about and respond to music styles from a variety of time periods and cultures around the world.

Media :  Elementary students in Tonka Online receive Media instruction once every 6 school days. During Media students focus on skills and information they will use for the rest of their lives including literature appreciation experiences, digital citizenship, research skills and strategies, and the integration of technology. Learning to love reading and having the opportunity to select books of personal interest are both essential to a student's literacy experience, so elementary online students also have access to the Deephaven Elementary library collection.

Art : Elementary students in Tonka Online will receive art instruction once every 6 school days. Students will learn about foundational art and design principles through guided creation and discovery. Students will create original art and respond to historical and contemporary artists and art movements.

Signature Programs

Options For Language Immersion StudentsMinnetonka Public Schools will provide Spanish language Immersion options for students beginning in Kindergarten. While the District is unable to offer a full Chinese language Immersion e-learning option at this time, the goal is to provide a consistent language experience for Immersion students who elect to participate in the e-learning program, as well as access to supplemental language development programs.

Advanced Learning ProgramsIf you have a child who participates in advanced learning programs, such as accelerated math, Wings or Navigators, options will also be offered. However, Navigator opportunities will be supplementary.
